2.      Describe, in your opinion, what made or makes you successful or unsuccessful.

Trying hard and do your best at whatever you are doing

Hard work and dedication makes you successful.

Coming to every class, doing the homework

Teaching is the key to my success, better teacher, better grades.

I try to be successful as much as possible by paying attention.

I think one on one teaching would help me more.

I never had algebra before and it is hard to learn as fast but I can do it with tutors and practice.

Will power, determination and eagerness

I am dedicated to learning. I do my best to learn all that I can and to make good grades.

I believe in myself, therefore, I will be successful no matter the grade.

I need more time to study.

Paying attention.

I understand some stuff real easy. And some stuff I can’t.

I have been more successful with Ms. Arnette’s class than any other (and I’ve had it 3 of 4 times).  Because she explains it in a way that my teacher in high school should have.

A little rough.  I just need to do more work.

I think the teacher has a lot to do with how successful or unsuccessful you are. Mrs. Arnette is wonderful and takes the time to be sure everyone understands.

Doing good in college makes me successful, however, full success will be a good, high paying job.

I’m a genius.

A lot of examples of different versions of equations.

3.  Did you or do you attend class regularly?  (Explain why or why not)

Yes, I actually like math class

Yes, because when you miss one class it is impossible to know what you’re doing the next time.

Yes, if I missed a class, I would get very confused.

Yes, because I don’t want to get too far behind.

Yes, so I can get my work + have my assignments on time.

Yes, I think class attendance is very important.

Yes. I only had to miss class once because of my father.

Yes, because I want to pass.

Yes, I do attend regularly so that I do not miss anything my instructor may cover.

Attending my classes regularly leads me to believe that this will help me get a job.

Yes, I attend every class because if I don’t I’m going to get behind.

Yes.  I wanted to pass.

Yes, one or two classes a day.

Yes, because if I fall behind I don’t want it to be because I didn’t make it, but simply because I don’t understand enough.

Yes, am here attend every class to help in my learning.

I have not missed any classes but will miss one class due to major surgery, but Mrs. Arnette has been great about working with me.

Yes, there’s no need to miss just because I don’t feel like coming in.

Yes.

Yes, for the most part (work).

4.  What could the instructors do to help all Developmental Math students be more successful?

Just go over the information more in depth.

Give good notes and lots of practice problems.

            N/A

Nothing so far, everything is good.

Give study guides for the test.

The instructors could do more one on one teaching and keep class in session for a longer period of time.

(Students should use PLATO more often) I really don’t know.

Sit down with them one on one, if student is willing and find their strong and weak points, help them.

Be slow paced and try not to move through chapters too quickly.

I believe the main thing that would help students is to spend more time on the subject.

Slow down when going over problems make sure everyone knows what they are doing.

            Keep the students’ attention.

            Slow down.

Go just a bit slower or have smaller class sizes.

            More group activities.

Take the time to make sure everyone understands the material.

I think that this math instructor is probably the best I’ve ever had in a math class!

It’s pretty much where it needs to be.

            Practice on board.

5.      What could SKCTC, the college, do to help all Developmental Math students be more successful?

Tutor when best for student

Have tutors stay later in the day

Offer more classes at different times.

Take as much time as it takes to get it what your working right + so you’ll know what you’re doing.

Having a math tutor on site, in the classroom would be a huge help.

I don’t know.

I don’t know.

Offer more tutors and a larger variety of times to take tutoring.

Have a one to one student teacher meeting that way the teacher can reach a student on a personal basic.

Keep good instructors

Break it down student by student.  If they think they need extra help.

Make math tutors more accessible, and easier to schedule at a more acceptable time.

Encouragement.

Hire good instructors, like Mrs. Arnette.

Maybe advertise the tutoring so that students are fully aware of the program.

It’s good now.

Let more of them (the students) know about tutoring

I hate math it’s my worst subject.

I’m not a fan of Math. It is by far my worst subject and I personally do not enjoy it.

I feel good learning something my 3 children already know something about.

I don’t like math, this is my weak point.

Math is my worst subject.

Mathematics is not my best subject, even so I  like math and want to know more.

I think everybody should know basic math.

I hate it, but it has to be done.

I hate math!

Scared, panic stricken and just soon eat dirt.  It is impossible to add a, b, c’s

Rough just need more work.

Math is a skill that is needed, but some of it will never be used again outside of the classroom.
