QEP Minutes
February 3, 2006
Members in attendance: Odell Wilson, Joel Eldridge, Robin Haggerty, Millard Robbins, David Clutts, Joann Martin, Ruby Sparkman, Chuck Sturgill, and Wheeler Conover.
Members not in attendance: Peggy Conklin and Rick Mason
Haggerty opened the meeting by discussing baseline data and percentage gains. The committee discussed the issue of collecting baseline data. Mason pointed out that the school has COMPASS scores going back several years that could be considered baseline data. He added that ACT scores could be used the same way. The committee then discussed percentage gains. It was decided that gains could be discussed once Mason (Director of Institutional Research) could provide the baselines.
Haggerty then informed the committee that she had met with Union College’s QEP Chair. She had copies of both of their QEP efforts—the one that failed and the one accepted by SACS. She told the committee that anyone could see these copies but that she was not going to make copies (at the request of the Union QEP Chair). Anyone who wanted to read the QEP documents could ask for them and receive them through campus mail.
Haggerty asked that comments on draft 2 of the QEP, which had been sent out via email a few days prior to the meeting, be in writing (typed).
Haggerty asked that the committee approve the initial QEP implementation schedule. The committee discussed the fact that little seemed to be happening in Fall 06 and Haggerty reminded them that the rules about what could or could not be implemented before the SACS visit were unclear. It was best to do some, but perhaps not a tremendous amount. The committee approved the initial implementation schedule.
Haggerty asked for ideas for QEP publicity and shared the plan to get feedback from faculty and staff. Martin and Haggerty would meet with tutor supervisors and Haggerty would conduct campus to campus feedback sessions.
Haggerty then asked for input regarding the QEP PowerPoint slide show that she had prepared for faculty/staff feedback. The committee approved the slide show and then approved the faculty/staff feedback forms that Haggerty had created.
Haggerty asked the committee about adding Library goals to the QEP and the committee agreed.
The committee then agreed to use the Paradigm of Success illustration as the cover for the QEP.
The meeting adjourned.
