QEP Focus Group Meeting

Harlan Campus

April 2, 2004

Attending:  Donna Cox, Leann Turner, Wanda Allen, and Chuck Sturgill.

The Harlan campus meeting used Milton Borntrager’s outline about the reasons why students sometimes perform poorly to frame their discussion.  The group determined they agreed with both the problems and solutions detailed in the outline.  They emphasized that another way to serve students though would be to offer a full menu of developmental level classes.  It was noted that several students in Harlan test into ENC 090, ENC 091, ENC 092, MT 055, and RDG 030; however, none of those classes are offered on the Harlan campus.  Many of the same students lack transportation and have no way to commute to the Cumberland campus to take them.
