Academic honorary welcomes new members during campus
The annual induction ceremony for new members of the Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College Xi Sigma Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, a national honorary for students attending two-year institutions of higher learning, was held recently in the Edsel Godbey Appalachian Center located on the Cumberland campus. During the ceremony, a total of 79 SKCTC students who attend classes on campuses at Cumberland, Whitesburg, Harlan, Middlesboro and Pineville were ushered into the organization where members must have achieved an overall grade point average of 3.5 or higher to be considered for membership. Opening remarks were made by Dr. W. Bruce Ayers, SKCTC president and a charter member of the Xi Sigma Chapter. Phi Theta Kappa faculty advisors Pat Baker, Robin Haggerty and Sandy Holbrook addressed the inductees. Chapter President Deborah Halcomb introduced the new members and led them in the pledge. Following the ceremony a reception was held in honor of new inductees and their families.
