College is host to Math/Science Contest, students from across region take part

Over 100 students representing 6 high schools from across the region participated recently in the annual Math/Science contest sponsored by Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College.

Held on the campus at Cumberland, the event featured some of the area’s brightest students as they vied for awards and recognition during the competition that is annually sponsored by the Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Related Technologies Division of Southeast.

Faculty members from SKCTC developed 11 separate tests that were taken by representatives from each high school.

SKCTC faculty who helped organize and administer the event include: Odell Wilson, Barry Nichols, Larry Reader, Dave Simpson, Rhonda Creech, Terry Gilliam, Richard Call, Ajay Mukhopadhyay, Enoch Foutch, David Kidwell, Pat Scopa and Michael Rose.

While on campus, the students, who represented James A. Cawood, Letcher, Whitesburg, Middlesboro, Claiborne County, Tenn., and J. Frank White Academy, high schools, were treated to lunch and given a tour.
