College to host state conference for developmental educators
Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College will be the host Nov. 7 and 8 for the annual conference of members of the Kentucky Association for Developmental Educators (KADE). Faculty representing colleges and universities from across the commonwealth will be in attendance to hear various presentations and to participate in discussions regarding best teaching practices for underprepared students.
The Nov. 7 session, slated for Pine Mountain State Resort Park at Pineville, will begin at 2 p.m. At 6 o’clock, a banquet will be held which will feature an address by award-winning author Silas House of London. Also on the program will be a performance by songwriter and guitarist Larry Goodwin.
On Saturday the 8th, the event will switch venues to the SKCTC Middlesboro campus with the session set to reconvene at 9 a.m. and ending with a luncheon during which Dr. Keith Bird, chancellor of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System, will be the featured speaker.
Southeast’s faculty Amy Simpson, Robin Haggerty, Deborah Halcomb and Michael Corriston head up the organizational committee for the 2008 event. Other SKCTC faculty members including Madeline Gibson, Sandy Holbrook, Donna Cox, Travis Cox, Erin Wilson and Brenda Morris will give presentations during the two-day event.
