College to sponsor free NOAA weather spotter class,
event set Aug. 26 on Whitesburg campus
A two-hour class offered free of charge and open to all members of the community which will provide key information to participants about weather patterns and how to spot changing conditions that signal approaching storms, will be held Tuesday, Aug, 26 beginning at 6 p.m. in the Belinda Mason Building located on the campus of Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College at Whitesburg.
Tim Webb, instructor for the session, explained that a trained weather spotter “provides a vital service to the National Weather Service and to his or her community by providing actual visual confirmation directly to the NWS. He noted that spotters generally report significant events such as damaging winds, heavy rains, tornado activity, ice and snow along with other events that have an impact on the forecast or the safety of the community.”
He stressed that participants will not be obligated to report conditions to the NWS, but encouraged anyone with an interest in meteorology to take part in the event. For further information, contact Mr. Webb at SKCTC by phoning (606) 589-3324 or contact him via e-mail at twebb0006@kctcs.edu
