King celebration set for Jan. 19 at Benham Inn
The yearly tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., a Community Diversity Breakfast sponsored by Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College, will be held Saturday, Jan. 19 at 9 a.m. at the Benham School House Inn with Charlene Walker of Lexington as the keynote speaker.
Ms. Walker is the vice-president of Multicultural Affairs at Bluegrass Community and Technical College.
The event will mark 40 years since King’s assassination. The breakfast and observance, according to Carolyn Sundy, event coordinator,” Serves to connect the King Day with the principles upon which Dr. King built his life, his service and the movement he championed – the principles of nonviolence.”
Ms. Walker holds degrees from Eastern Kentucky University and the University of Kentucky. At Bluegrass Community and Technical College, she holds the rank of full professor and is in demand nationally as a speaker and presenter on issues related to sexism, racism and classism.
