Faculty attends 30th Appalachian Writers’ Workshop

Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College faculty members Robert Gipe and Amy Kreiter took part recently in the 30th annual Appalachian Writers’ Workshop held at the Hindman Settlement School in Knott County.

In order to be chosen to attend the workshop, participants were required to submit a manuscript which was reviewed by workshop officials.

Sessions taught during the 30th event included novel writing, short story, memoir, chidren’s writing, nonfiction, poetry and playwriting.

Kreiter, who teaches at Southeast’s Middlesboro campus, was enrolled in the playwriting seminar taught by Silas House, a nationally-acclaimed writer from London, Ky. She also sat in on sessions taught by Lee Smith, Robert Morgan and Harlan native George Ella Lyon.

SKCTC Professor Gipe, who is assigned to the Cumberland campus, attended the novel writing workshop taught by Liza Alther.
