Area health education center at Southeast to celebrate AHEC week

The Southeast Kentucky Area Health Education Center (AHEC) will celebrate its existence and service to the region with an exhibit slated for Thursday, March 29 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

The event will be held in Newman Hall on the Cumberland campus of Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College and is being held in conjunction with a nation-wide observance of AHEC Week.

The purpose of the exhibit is to showcase ways the consortium is enhancing healthcare delivery within Southeastern Kentucky, according to Michael Gayheart, AHEC center coordinator.

“Our mission is to improve the quality, distribution and retention of all healthcare professionals by providing clinical rotations for healthcare students and also provide health career guidance to encourage local youth to become healthcare professionals.

“AHEC also strives to provide continuing education programs for healthcare professionals living within the region while providing library services for community, students and healthcare professionals,” he said.
