Author Crystal Wilkinson to appear at Southeast Cumberland
Noted author Crystal Wilkinson will appear on the Cumberland campus of Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College in the Edsel Godbey Appalachian Center for a “writer’s evening.”
The event has been scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 22 beginning at 7 p.m. and will feature the Kentucky-born poet and author.
She has penned a popular short story collection: Blackberries, Blackberries and Water Street and is a member of the Affrilachians Poets, a group of African-American poets with roots in the Appalachian Mountains. She currently resides in Lexington and is on the faculty of Morehead State University.
Her appearance at Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College is sponsored by the school’s Appalachian Program, the Academic Advantage Program and the Black Student Union.
Prior to Ms. Wilkinson’s appearance, there will be a potluck dinner at 6 p.m. for the cast of the community play “Higher Ground.” Cast members and others from the area are invited to attend, dine and discuss future community play topics.
