College receives continued support from Whitesburg Rotary

The Whitesburg Rotary Club has recently made a second donation of $1,000 to their scholarship fund at Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKCTC). Carl Banks, club president, announced the initial pledge of $3,000 to Southeast’s Fulfilling the Promise Campaign last fall.

Banks, who serves as county chairman in the current campaign for Southeast, is now retired. He was assistant CEO of Mountain Comprehensive Health Corporation and a former schoolteacher, who served as an adjunct faculty member in English for the college from 1983-1986. “Hardly a day goes by,” he said, that I do not see or hear of one of my Southeast students making a contribution to the betterment of this area and its people. The Whitesburg Rotary Club is proud to support the good work of Southeast in Letcher County.”

Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College has added this second gift to the Whitesburg Rotary Club Scholarship Fund that was created last year. The proceeds from the fund are used to support students from Letcher County who are enrolled at Southeast.

“We are so appreciative of the continued support from the Whitesburg Rotary Club,” said Dr. W. Bruce Ayers, SKCTC President. “Members of the Whitesburg Rotary Club have been strong supporters of the College for more than twenty years, and this additional gift is especially important for those students attending Southeast from Letcher County.
