Candy harvest is success at SKCTC

The candy harvest and food drive conducted each autumn on the Middlesboro campus of Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College proved to be most successful as students, faculty and staff welcomed several hundred area kindergarten students.

The Oct. 31 event also included the collection of canned foods submitted by the kindergarten kids and students from Southeast which was gathered and donated to the Salvation Army. The food will be distributed to needy individuals during the upcoming holiday season who live within a five-county area in Southeastern Kentucky and neighboring Tennessee.

SKCTC’s Sheila Miracle coordinated the event which welcomed over 200 children from the West End Elementary School, East End Elementary School and from St. Julian’s School. The event featured the children dressed in Halloween attire being escorted around campus where they were given candy.

Aiding in the project were faculty Eddy Miracle, Michael Rose, Rebecca Miller and students Amy Napier and Lisa Akers.

Additionally, SKCTC Professor Peggy Marcum and students who are members of the Kentucky Education Association Student Program presented a Halloween program for the children and presented each with treats.
