SKCTC Aquaculture Project

A component of the Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College Rural Community College Initiative, the Aquaculture Learning Center produces trout using pure water from abandoned coal mines. Located in scenic Lynch, Kentucky, the site is capable of producing up to 40,000 trout per year.

Constructed in 2000, the objective of this project is to demonstrate to local entrepreneurs the economic feasibility of cold-water aquaculture. Rainbow trout have thrived in this environment.

Many partners have contributed to the aquaculture project with finances or technical assistance. Their efforts have been invaluable to the success of this initiative.
