The
Academic Counseling and Assessment Offices strives to assist
students in making a smooth transition to college life by providing
quality academic advisement, transfer information, career counseling
and testing services. It is their goal to provide thorough and
current information about Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical
College and it's programs and services. The Academic Counseling
and Assessment Offices are located on the Cumberland, Middlesboro
and Whitesburg Campuses
The
Academic Counselor's Office provides services that will assist
a student with their career decisions. These services include
assessment tools and counseling to help facilitate personal
growth in career development.
Four
aspects of career development must be accomplished and/or completed
before one obtains the right JOB in life: Perception, Planning,
Pursuit and Promotion. The student will have to opportunity
to explore each of these four area through workshop and visits
with the academic/career counselor.
Career
Planning/Assessment
FOCUS II which is a computer based instrument is located in
the academic counseling/assessment offices and on the SKCTC
web site. FOCUS provides seven assessment inventories that provides
information on careers and how they match you interest, values
and ability. Access

Several
web based employment search engines or listings are also available:
American's Job Bank allows access to the same database that
the Kentucky Employment Services utilizes, USJOBS and DOL Vacancy
Listings web site provides a complete listing of employment
opportunities in the United States Government and the Commonwealth
of Kentucky Personnel Cabinet State Job Opportunities web site
A
reference library of information is available for student career
exploration. The Occupational Outlook Handbook, KOICC Kentucky
Career Guide, Kentucky Career Outlook and Job Opportunities
Handbook and the US Department of Labor's Dictionary
of Occupational Titles are available.
Several
workshops are available each semester on resume writing, interviewing
and career exploration.
Transfer
Counseling
Transfer Counselors are available to assist student who are
preparing to transfer to four year colleges. By completing the
Associate in Arts degree or the Associate in Science degree
a student will have a completed the transfer block that will
meet the general education requirements for Kentucky State universities
and colleges.
College
catalogs, flyers, forms and applications are available in the
counseling offices. The College Handbook, which lists essential
information for colleges and universities in the United States,
is also available.
College
Visits
Counseling Offices schedule college visits and tours
for students. Transportation will be provided by the college
for interested students.
College
Day
Admissions counselors and recruiters from all regional
colleges and universities are invited to SKCTC campuses to recruit
transfer students.
