NARRATIVE/JUSTIFICATION FOR JUDGMENT OF COMPLIANCE

Degree programs offered at Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College embody a coherent course of study based on established learning outcomes and compatibility with the mission and goals of the Institution; moreover, they show consistency with and are appropriate to similar fields of study within higher education [1]. All programs conform to the standards established by the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education [2] and are reflective of policies originating with the Senate of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System [3].  The associate in arts and associate degree programs develop broad, lower-division general competencies that prepare students for transfer to senior Institutions [4], while associate in applied science programs are designed to sequentially develop skills and competencies appropriate to the workforce [5].

These curricula for degree programs are often suggested by specialized external requirements, state regulations, licensure requirements, and other guidelines.  They are then evaluated by processes that involve faculty at the committee, college, and system levels.  All degree programs must ultimately be approved by the Kentucky Community and Technical College System Board of Regents.  All program purposes are aligned with the mission statement of SKCTC and undergo periodic program reviews.  The findings of program reviews are used to make improvements to programs through curriculum refinements, budget changes, and staffing adjustments [6].
