NARRATIVE/JUSTIFICATION FOR JUDGMENT OF COMPLIANCE

The highest degree offered by Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKCTC) is the associate degree.  The guidelines for awarding the associate degree are based on the semester credit system [1].  SKCTC does not offer degrees at the baccalaureate, post-baccalaureate, graduate, or professional level.  Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College offers three (3) associate degree programs based on at least sixty (60) semester hours:

-- Associate in Arts (AA) degree (60 semester hours) [2]

-- Associate in Science (AS) degree (60 semester hours) [3]

-- Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree(Range: 60-76 hours) [4]

SKCTC provides written justification and rationale for program equivalency through its published policies for evaluating and accepting academic credit found in the KCTCS Catalog [5].  Moreover, the Kentucky Revised Statute (KRS) 164.020 [6], KCTCS Board of Regents Policy 4.11 [7], and KCTCS Board of Regents Policy 1.3.2.3 [8] establish the policies on program length and credit transfer.

SKCTC and the Kentucky Community and Technical College System approve degree plans for SKCTC in concert with the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education (CPE) [9]. And these plans are compatible with the SKCTC Mission Statement. [10]  Additionally, all associate degree programs are peer-reviewed through an internal, periodic, program-review process. [11]
