NARRATIVE/JUSTIFICATION FOR JUDGMENT OF COMPLIANCE

Pursuant to Kentucky Revised Statute (KRS 164.350) [1], Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College (SKCTC)  has degree-granting authority from the Commonwealth of Kentucky, the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education [2], and the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) Board of Regents.  In 1997, the Kentucky Postsecondary Education Improvement ACT (House Bill1) [3] created KCTCS.  The Act brought together 15 vocational schools (later to become technical colleges) and 13 community colleges—previously members of the University of Kentucky Community College System—under the auspices of the KCTCS Board of Regents [4].  In 2001, the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools approved the consolidation of Southeast Community College, founded in 1960, with Cumberland Valley Technical College, which originated in 1940.  Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College (renamed after consolidation) has maintained SACS-COC accreditation since 1969.  Prior to consolidation with SKCTC, Cumberland Valley Technical College was accredited by the Council on Occupational Education.
