NARRATIVE/JUSTIFICATION FOR JUDGMENT OF COMPLIANCE

The Institution meets the requirement and provides a convincing argument in support of its determination and a list of documents demonstrating compliance.

Definition and publication of general education and undergraduate program requirements are as follows:

Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College defines and publishes general education and major program requirements for undergraduates through the KCTCS Catalog and online [1]. The Catalog contains information concerning the requirements to obtain a certificate, diploma, or an associate degree from SKCTC.  Moreover, bulletins are prepared and distributed for each of the Institution’s associate degree (including associate in arts and associate in science degree programs) and diploma programs [2].

Core Requirement 2.7.3 discusses the College’s general education program.

These requirements conform to commonly accepted standards and practices for undergraduate programs as defined by the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education’s transfer framework set forth in Kentucky Revised Statute 164.583 [3].

SKCTC requires that a minimum of 60 semester hours be completed for associate degrees in both arts and sciences, while the Associate of Applied Science degree also requires a minimum of 60 and cannot exceed 76, with 15 hours in general education being required.  The faculty’s role in the curriculum process is defined by faculty rules and in Board of Regents Policy 1.4 [4].

To ensure ongoing adherence to accepted standards and practices, the College has established an annual review process for all programs leading to an associate degree or diploma.  The evaluation process requires program faculty to define the mission and goals of the program and to explain which assessment measures are used to evaluate program quality. The policy on program approval is set form in Board of Regents Policy 4.11 [5].
