The intent of this job specification is to provide a representative summary of the types of duties and responsibilities that will be required of this classification and shall not be construed as a declaration of the specific duties and responsibilities of any particular position. Employees may be required to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this job specification.
Assists the Librarian in daily operations of the library. Performs technical and/or public service related library functions including acquisitions, circulations, references, cataloging, and inter-library loan operations; and/or independently oversees the daily operations of a branch library operation.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities (Ranked by
Importance):
· Performs bookkeeping, budgeting and record keeping for library materials accounts.
· Manages circulation desk activities and orderly maintenance of shelves, including supervision of student workers in the performance of these duties.
· Assists and instructs patrons in using and learning to independently access library databases and online library catalog.
· Catalogs newly acquired library materials, including copy cataloging and maintenance of holdings records.
· Processes interlibrary loans.
· Orders, receives, tracks, and processes library materials.
· Maintains master periodical file and checks in current periodicals.
· Maintains reserve collection using the Endeavor Voyager library program.
· Manages/oversees the collection and deposits of fines.
· Performs equipment maintenance, scheduling and troubleshooting to include, but not limited to TV, audio, overhead projectors, projection units, etc.
· Works with Systems Office staff to run, maintain, and improve library management system.
· Assists with special projects, and/or provides general guidance for library staff conducting special projects.
· Serves on library committees and professional development.
· Performs library assistant duties as needed.
· Prepares and opens library for daily operation.
Minimum Education/Experience (Certificates, Licenses, Registration):
Associate's degree (Accounting, or related field), and two years related experience, or equivalent.
· Problem Solving: Problems are different, but tend to come up often. Checks with supervisor if none of the regularly established procedures fix the problem.
· Supervisory Responsibilities: Functions in a lead capacity over others but is not a direct supervisor. May assign, schedule and monitor the work of others.
· Oversight and Direction: Receives general direction working from established policies and objectives. Plans and carries out assignments and resolves most conflicts that arise.
Working Conditions/Job Hazards:
· Normal office environment with moderate noise (examples: business office computers, printers, etc.)
· Low degree of hazard or danger associated with the job.
Physical Demands: (with or without reasonable accommodation)
· Primarily sitting using fingers, hands and arms to reach. Occasional stooping, kneeling, or crouching. Optional standing and walking. Ability to effectively communicate using auditory or visual methods.

JOB
DESCRIPTION
Oversee circulation of
library materials, including interlibrary loan and OCLC activity, dispatching
of overdue and fine notices, and generation of circulation reports and
statistics.
Oversee training and
supervision of work-study student workers and part-time personnel.
Provide
financial documentation regarding library purchases as appropriate and when
requested by director of the Middlesboro campus.
Coordinate
ITV activity on the Middlesboro campus.
Manage
and maintain audio-visual equipment checked out to faculty.
Record
and distribute videotapes of distance education courses.
Provide
information services and other assistance to library patrons, including
assistance in operating OPAC and other computer resources, reference questions,
operation of copying machine as needed, locating books and periodicals on
library shelves.
Manage
other routine library operations, including:
·enforcing library rules and procedures;
·collecting money for
fines and fees, from copier use, and items sold; reconciling money and turning
money over to business office;
·ensuring the neat and
orderly appearance of the library;
·ensuring that books
and periodicals are shelved in a timely manner;

Under the supervision of the
Campus Library Director, the Library Assistant is responsible for specific
areas of work and will manage the library in the absence of the Campus Library
Director.

LIBRARY SPECIALIST: CIRCULATION SUPERVISOR
Charges
and discharges circulating library materials and issues library cards.
Assists
patrons with the use of computers, the copy machine, and the microform reader.
Supervises and trains
part-time and student workers.
Manages
the library reserve system.
Manages
the shelving of books and audio materials and the maintenance of shelves in
good order.
Answers general directional
and reference questions; refers more involved reference questions to a
librarian.
Generates circulation
reports and keeps circulation statistics.
Keeps periodicals,
newspapers, vertical files, and microforms in order; checks in periodicals,
using the automated check-in system to get issues on shelves promptly and
obtain missing issues from the vendor.
Sends out
overdue and fine notices.
Collects money for fines and
fees, copier use, and items sold. Makes deposits in accordance with policy.
Manages and maintains
audio-visual equipment checked out to faculty.
Handles circulation to
students of materials borrowed via inter-library loan.
Assists

LIBRARY SPECIALIST: BUSINESS MANAGER

Keeps accurate track of all library budgets and makes
sure that they are neither under-spent nor over-spent.
Handles acquisition of library materials—ordering
books, videos, etc., and makes sure that orders are correct and all items are
received.
Makes sure that bills and invoices
are paid at the appropriate time.
Orders supplies and equipment; keeps track of needs.
Acts as liaison between the Library
and the Business Office.
Helps check in periodicals
and gets them on the shelf promptly, as well as seeing that we obtain copies of
issues that have been missed.
Assists with the recording and
distribution of videotapes of distance education courses.
Compiles figures and statistics for annual reports;
coordinates statistic keeping efforts for the SKCTC libraries.
Maintains copier and fax machines; assists faculty
and staff with use of the fax.
Assists with circulation
duties; acts as back-up to the Circulation Supervisor when needed.
