Work cooperatively with regional & state agencies to develop, implement & evaluate specific programs offered in support of welfare reform & employment development programs.

Offer an EMT Transition Course for currently certified EMTs

Pursue & submit proposals for training that will promote employment development skills & support welfare reform

Contact & pay certified EMT Transition instructor; Complete application for provision of course & submit to Frankfort; Inventory EMT materials; Purchase materials; Advertise/ Registration

Hire adjunct personnel; Faculty involvement for training; Revenue to purchase materials; Travel expenses; CE personnel-coordinator, facilitators, & office assistants; Facility usage

To provide a multi-faceted Continuing Education Program that places emphasis on (A) a flexible delivery system and (B) responsiveness to the needs of the area.

Priority initiative

Expand offerings through the Small Business Development Center & the Mine Training Institute

Utilize the distance learning network to expand student base for specialized courses & programs.

Actions/ implementation procedures necessary, with anticipated start and completion dates

Plan on expanding Mine Training Institute by the provision of mine-related courses at "on-site" locations & dependent upon findings of Business/Industry "Inquiry Service", survey provision of training at their various sites

Develop "HIV/AIDS Update for Health-care providers" home-study course & seek approval for it from Cabinet of Human Resources

Resources required to carry out this plan

MTI personnel travel/ lodging expenses; MTI vehicle maintenance; Faculty travel to area businesses; Purchase of "company-specific" training materials

Preparation of program to be submitted for approval; Production of course & test; Grading of course test; Advertisement

Offer short-term courses & programs as requested by business & industry, utilizing the Mine Training Institute & Small Business Development Center.

Maintain close ties with business and industry through personal contact and through membership on industrial development boards, chambers of commerce, and other agencies concerned with job creation.

Actions/ implementation procedures necessary, with anticipated start and completion dates

Continue to provide "industry-specific" training to current mining clientele & pursue new companies

Perform a needs assessment for specific training needs of business & industry in our service area by contacting business/industries throughout the year

Resources required to carry out this plan

Hire employees for MTI to assist with training; Purchase fax machine; Purchase new training materials; Incorporate Internet access at MTI building; Travel/ Lodging expenses; Eimco Miner Training Panel

Broaden programming by and through Pine Mountain Community Development Corporation & Rural Community College Initiative.

Work as a full partner in economic development activities.

PMCDC will strive to add $100,000 in new capital for loans to entrepreneurial ventures in the community; it will continue to offer loan counseling in partnership with the SBDC & SECC faculty

Sponsor forums for community leaders to meet on regular basis to discuss & act on important community & economic issues; RCCI community team will act as "Think Tank" to promote ideas for community improvement

Small Business Development Center will offer training courses to small business in seven counties on a variety of subjects pertinent to their jobs

MTI personnel will meet with mine supervisors on an as-needed basis & maintain membership in professional organizations

Membership fees; Travel/ Lodging expenses

Criteria and anticipated outcomes used to measure success

Training for up to 300 people during 1998-99

Personal contact during meetings, along with attainment of new knowledge will lead to future contacts for provision of training & improved training

Other divisions/ programs that will be directly affected and plans for coordination

Business faculty may serve as trainers & counselors

Other departments within this division & other divisions will be used on a case-specific basis to offer integrated training whenever possible

To offer a Community Service Program that helps to meet the recreational, cultural, educational and social needs of the area.

 

Priority initiative

Work with each campus to assess specific needs in the communities served & develop strategies to encourage faculty & student involvement in community service.

Actions/ implementation procedures necessary, with anticipated start and completion dates

Develop Community Service Committee on each campus in Spring 1999 semester whose members will be representative of community & SECC students. Their mission will be to provide CE/CS personnel input on needs/concerns of respective communities; to be shared with SECC faculty & staff to plan 1999-2000 Community Service Activities.

Active participation by committee members to highlight specific needs;
