Dear Reader:
In 1996-97, the faculty and staff at Southeast Community College spent considerable time refocusing our strategic plan, looking at ways in which we could better serve our students and region. From that effort, we put forward a STRATEGIC PLAN 1997-2002 to guide the institution into the new millennium and began publishing a combined Annual Report/Plan. This publication includes the Annual Report 1999-2000 and Annual Plan 2000-2001, marking the fourth year of our five-year planning cycle.
Since the initial publication of SECC's STRATEGIC PLAN 1997-2002, the State of Kentucky created a new governing body for the state's community and technical colleges: the Kentucky Community and Technical System (KCTCS). During the summer of 2000, KCTCS officials put forward a Strategic Plan 2000-2005 containing Vision and Mission Statements for the System as well as set of 10 Goals and 16 priorities. They also began a series of workshops with the technical and community colleges to assist us all in aligning our own strategic planning to reflect our common System-wide vision: "to create by the year 2020 a comprehensive community and technical college system recognized as the nation's best." When SECC's existing Strategic Plan was compared to the 2000-2005 Plan for KCTCS, we were pleased to note that our Goals and Priorities indeed reflected the visionary stance now articulated for the entire State.
I am proud to present this year’s Annual Report & Plan which includes a reprinting of our STRATEGIC PLAN 1997-2002. The reprinting incorporates the new KCTCS Goals and Priorities and draws the reader's attention to the parallels between SECC’s ambitious agenda and that adopted by the statewide System. We believe that our Strategic Plan will continue to help us reach the ambitious goals set by KCTCS and further our own vision statement:
Southeast
Community College, the catalyst for educational, community, and economic
development, opens the door to a brighter future.
Sincerely,
President
