Dr. Edsel T. Godbey

Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College proudly recognizes its founding president, Dr. Edsel T. Godbey, by naming the Appalachian Center in his honor. Godbey, who served as president from 1960 to 1963 was instrumental in building a base of support for the college. As a native eastern Kentuckian, he knew the impact Southeast would have on the region. He helped forge enduring partnerships with local schools, businesses, and communities in an effort to broaden the college's sphere of influence.

While he spent only a few years at Southeast. Dr. Godbey developed a strong attachment to the college and the communities it serves. He makes regular visits to the college in official and unofficial capacities. In 1993. he was instrumental in the college's securing an endowment grant through Title III for $500,000, one of several awards he has helped Southeast to secure.

Through his generosity and the efforts of the Dr. Edsel T. Godbey Appalachian Center, the history and culture that have shaped our region will continue to be an integral part of life for eastern Kentuckians for generations to come.
