The Humanities Division at Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College is reviving the literary magazine Bloodroot. The new Bloodroot will be primarily an online publication and will not be limited to writing, visual art, and photography, but will also include music, video, and digital art. We are interested in non-fiction writing as well as fiction and poetry. The magazine will focus on the creative output of local students, and Southeast students especially. The plan is to publish the first issue in the spring of 2009. We hope that Bloodroot will be Southeast student-managed and directed. Therefore, we are looking for students who are interested in: contributing their art to the magazine, whatever form that art takes,
editing the magazine, designing the magazine’s website, otherwise participating in the Bloodroot experience. All Southeast students are welcome to participate. Faculty members: Please consider making class assignments that result in work that might be published on the Bloodroot website. Southeast faculty members interested in their students’ work being a part of this project are welcome to contact us.

The Steele-Reese Foundation has awarded the Appalachian Program at Southeast $90,000 over the next two years to produce two new plays along the lines of Higher Ground. The funds will allow us to again work with visiting artists the way we did with Higher Ground. Heartfelt thanks to everyone who worked on this proposal.
The new play will be presented to the public in the spring of 2009.
