Founded in 1981, the Southeast Education Foundation operates exclusively to develop private sector
support and resources to benefit SECC students and programs. In 1993 the Foundation received official recognition by the Univeristy of Kentucky as an official fund-raising organization for Southeast Community College. This means that all donors to the Foundation are also recognized as donors to the University and receive all the rights of privileges of UK donors. The board of directors meets quarterly in January, April, July and October.
The foundation annually raises thousands of dollars to support scholarships, instructional programs, and administrative needs at SECC. It also serves as the fiscal agent for such programs as the college's literary magazine Bloodroot and the Harlan Area Performing Arts Series.
Annual fundraising events include the Harlan Country Club Annual Scholarship Golf Classic in the fall, the Sleepy Hollow Country Club Scholarship Golf Classic in the spring and the Harlan Area Performing Arts Reverse Raffle in December.
