Surgical Technology

Program Description:

This program is designed to prepare the student to become skilled in the required specialized

education and training needed to be a member of the surgical team. The surgical technologist

works under the direct supervision of a surgeon during surgical procedures. A surgical technologist

possesses expertise in the theory of application of sterile and aseptic techniques and has the

primary responsibility for maintaining the sterile field and being constantly vigilant that all members

of the team adhere to strict aseptic technique.

The curriculum prepares students with the basic knowledge and skill necessary to function as an

entry level surgical technologist. Accreditation standards require didactic instruction and supervised

clinical practice. The curriculum consists of prerequisite courses and instruction and practicum in

specialized program courses.
